The IV Energy Week started with the analysis of the role of statistics and energy indicators

Lima- Peru, Monday, November 11, 2019.- In one of the rooms of the Convention Center (LCC), representatives from the energy sector of Peru and the rest of the region, belonging to public, private and academic institutions convened to be part of the inauguration of the IV edition of the Energy Week.

In this space is where the advances that have been made in the improvement, systematization and modernization of the energy information systems of Latin America and the Caribbean were known.

The event was preceded by the Executive Secretary of the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade), Alfonso Blanco, who thanked the support provided by the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru, during the process of organizing the IV Energy Week, which takes place within the framework of the ISA-PERÚ-LAC World Renewable Energy Exhibition (Sun World 2019).

Additionally, he highlighted the progress made in the presentation of information systems in the region, thanks to the synergy and contributions of Olade’s strategic partners, such as, in this regard, the International Energy Agency and the Energy Statistics section of the United Nations.

In this regard, the Executive Secretary of Olade, Alfonso Blanco, was emphatic in the institutional function of the Organization to collect and systematize energy information in the region, with the support of all its Member Countries and especially the creation of synergies with different organizations “We want to generate a scope for discussion in the process of improving information systems and work on the methodological harmonization of energy codes to continue delivering tangible results,” said Olade’s secretary.

He also reported on the work that Olade develops, three years ago, with the International Energy Agency sharing the same vision, to which the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), a financial entity that has supported Olade to systematize energy information, as well as the World Bank in the development of energy information systems in 5 Caribbean countries.

At the end of his speech, the Executive Secretary of Olade announced the grant by Euroclima for the realization of three projects (Ecuador, Panama and Paraguay) for the development of useful energy balances. “The issues of useful energy balances are fundamental for the creation of valid and powerful information for the development of energy efficiency policies,” explained Olade’s secretary.

For his part, the head of the United Nations Energy Statistics Section, Leonardo Sousa, reported that in Latin America they have Olade, an alliance that is important to jointly coordinate the synergy.

Roberta Cuadrelli, head of the Energy Data Center Section of the International Energy Agency, who also participated in the inauguration, referred to the importance of the clean energy transition in the region.

The event “Monitoring progress towards the energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean: The role of Energy Statistics and Indicators”, which was organized by the United Nations Statistics Division, Olade, the International Energy Agency and the Bank World, activity with which Energy Week started, was attended by about 150 attendees and was divided into four sessions where the harmonization of energy statistics in Latin America and the Caribbean, international cooperation, in others was discussed .
