The draft of the Energy Efficiency Law of the Dominican Republic has the technical support of Olade

To know the observations of the Draft Energy Efficiency Law, which the Dominican Republic developed with the technical support of Olade, was the objective of the Energy Efficiency Workshop held by the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the country; meeting that included the participation of the Executive Secretary of Olade, Alfonso Blanco and specialists from Argentina, Mexico and Ecuador. This meeting was held on March 13, 2019, in the city of Santo Domingo.

In a meeting prior to the Workshop, the Executive Secretary of Olade, in order to present the observations of the Organization to the final document of the proposed law and exchange important aspects of the Organization, held a meeting with the Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Isa Conde; the deputy minister, Ernesto Vilalta and the Renewable Energy Director, Oscar de la Maza.

The Executive Secretary of Olade, Alfonso Blanco, during the Workshop presented a keynote speech on the motivation for an Energy Efficiency Law and comparisons with laws in the region.

The team of specialists that attended this meeting was made up of Andrea Heins from Argentina, Efraín Villanueva from Mexico and Byron Chiliquinga Ecuadorian consultant from Olade, who during the Workshop presented several topics, among them; the experience of Argentina and other countries, the Mexican legislation on clean energy and energy efficiency and the presentation of the main aspects of the Energy Efficiency Law of Ecuador, which received technical assistance from Olade.

Likewise, the team of specialists, participated in a meeting with the authorities of the energy sector of the Dominican Republic to discuss aspects related to the Energy Efficiency Law.

The event was closed with an exchange panel of lessons learned in energy efficiency legislation, in which invited specialists such as Mariano Chabert of Fundación Bariloche and Yomayra Martinó Soto, GIZ official in the Dominican Republic, participated.

This panel concluded with a series of recommendations on a roadmap for the presentation and approval of the draft bill.
