Olade organized a workshop to strengthen the capacities of energy statistics in Suriname

Paramaribo was the host city in Suriname where the workshop “Management of Human Resources, Energy Statistics and Awareness in Planning” was developed, which was organized by Olade with the financial support of the World Bank. This activity is part of the Caribbean Energy Statistics Capacity Building Project.

The main focus of the workshop was to strengthen capacities on the management of energy statistics in Suriname and the development of new skills related to the Energy Information System (sieLAC), information management and energy planning.
The opening of the workshop was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Dave Abeleven, who indicated the reforms being carried out in the country’s electricity sector and how this project will help achieve the objectives set.

Among those attending was also the leader of the Sustainable Development Program for the Caribbean of the World Bank, Vickram Cuttaree, who said that the commitment of the different sectors is fundamental in this process.
The Senior Caribbean Officer of the World Bank, Pierre Nadji, in his speech emphasized the importance of having quality statistical information that is useful as an input for planning and to address the energy challenges that exist in the region.

On behalf of Olade, the consultants Valeria Balseca and Gabriel Castellanos were present, as well as representatives of several ministries of the country and the departments of Planning and Statistics; as well as EBS and Staatsolie officials
In this space, the Olade’s consulting group took advantage of the opportunity to hold technical meetings with entities in the sector such as EBS, where a survey was carried out on the management of statistical information and the determination of responsibilities with regard to the provision of information and interaction.

The objective of this joint work with the Ministry of Natural Resources is to implement the Suriname Energy Information System.
