Olade makes available to the community of the energy sector the following document: Vulnerability to climate change and adaptation measures of hydroelectric systems in the Andean countries

This publication constitutes a synthesis of the methodological aspects and the most relevant results of the study, whose objective was to evaluate the impact of climate change on hydroelectric generation in the countries of the Andean subregion (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela) and the convenience of implementing some measures to adapt to this phenomenon. The project was developed between 2016 and 2019, by the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The document contains the following topics:

-The methodological approach of the study.
-Climate trends deduced from different sources.
-The scenarios for changing land uses generated within the framework of the project.
-The hydrological simulations carried out considering the climatic and land use scenarios, which have been addressed at two levels:
Regional.
In a pilot basin of each participating country.

-The analysis of the influence of climate change on the maintenance of pilot plants.
-The analysis of the influence of climate change on the operation of the energy system as a whole and on the pilot plants, evaluating both the trend scenario and different adaptation measures.
– The conclusions obtained and references used.
