SIESUR studies stage 1

Objective

Carry out technical studies to intensify electricity exchanges between the countries of the Southern Cone, making use of the existing interconnection infrastructure.

Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Outstanding results

  • Identify and evaluate the international electrical interconnections of the countries that make up SIESUR, carrying out an updated study on technically profitable complementarities, based on the recent and significant development of renewable energies in some countries of the subregion.
  • Evaluate the opportunities to intensify in the short and medium term the binational electricity exchanges and among all SIESUR countries, with a quantification of the economic and environmental benefits.
  • Analyze the legal, institutional and regulatory framework of the countries to identify barriers and harmonization spaces and the possibility of transit of commercialized energy between two countries, through a third party.
  • Identify alternatives for currency risk coverage, as a result of the energy transactions carried out between the countries.
  • Design and execute activities aimed at disseminating the results among the sectors involved in the process.
