In January 2026, regional oil production in LAC recorded a year-on-year increase of 11% and monthly growth of 1.1%. Brazil, Mexico, and Venezuela accounted for 70% of LAC’s oil supply, consolidating their position as the region’s main producers. Regarding foreign trade, 56% of total oil imports corresponded to intraregional trade, while 22% of regional exports were destined for LAC countries, highlighting a significant level of regional energy integration.
Meanwhile, regional natural gas production showed stronger growth, with a year-on-year increase of 27% and monthly growth of 22% in January 2026. Argentina led regional production with a 21% share, followed by Trinidad and Tobago with 20% and Brazil with 13%. In addition, intraregional trade remained highly relevant, as 59% of LAC’s total natural gas imports originated from countries within the region itself, reflecting growing energy interdependence and the strengthening of regional natural gas flows.
