The project “Improve, increase and facilitate access to education and training in Renewable Energy in Latin America” will benefit Argentina, Uruguay and Peru

Within the framework of the project “Improve, increase and facilitate access to education and training in Renewable Energy in Latin America”, which is carried out by the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade) together with the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC), the Renewable Energies Academy of Germany (RENAC) and the company FACTOR (Ideas for change), held work meetings in Montevideo-Uruguay during the week of May 6 to 10, 2019, as part of the activities of the diagnosis stage of the current situation of renewable education in Latin America.

This project that will benefit Argentina, Uruguay and Peru in the improvement of their training plans and in the implementation of demonstration centers in wind, solar and thermal energy, has the objective of contributing to the sustainable development of the market in clean energies and reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in the region; by boosting the education systems in renewable energies, creating new capacities in the countries and increasing new employment opportunities.

Additionally, the project will support the curricula in renewable energies of the 27 Member Countries of Olade.

During this work week, the project team had interviews and meetings with the main actors involved, such as; ministries of energy, education and the environment; private businesses; association of industrial companies and the embassy of Germany. They also visited the facilities of UTEC, the Center for Training in Maintenance and Operation of Renewable Energies (CEFOMER) and UDELAR.

These interviews are inputs that will subsequently serve for the preparation of study plans, training of trainers and the implementation of the demonstration centers respectively.

The project team will continue to diagnose the current situation of renewable education in Latin America in Argentina from June 3 to 7 and in Peru from June 10 to 14.
