OLADE participated in the Workshop of Variable Renewable Energy Specialists

OLADE presented its Energy Planning Manual at the Best Practices Exchange Workshop to incorporate Variable Renewable Energy in the long-term planning of the energy sector in South America, a workshop organized by IRENA and the Ministry of Energy and Mining of Argentina, last August 31st,2017.
At the presentation of OLADE’s Energy Planning Manual, there were presented the content and results achieved in the implementation of this tool in its Member Countries, as well as the available tools for the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of the technical capacity in the Countries .
During the workshop, new approaches related to capacity credit, flexibility, geospatial information, investment needs in electricity transmission, generated with renewable variables, stability of systems, and other aspects were also analyzed.
One of the objectives of the workshop was to exchange experiences and discuss best practices, to improve the planning of the expansion of energy capacity, with high penetration of variable renewable energy, both regionally and globally.
The main technical support needs of the participating countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom) were identified as the follow-up actions and conclusions of the workshop.
The workshop was attended by around 50 specialists and officials from the Ministries of the participating countries.
