We are pleased to announce the First Regional Methane Summit of Latin America and the Caribbean 2024, which will take place on August 26th in Bogotá, Colombia.
This event, organized by the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) alongside the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia and supported by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) and the Global Methane Hub (GMH), will feature the participation of senior energy officials from the region, international financing organizations, NGOs, representatives from academia, chambers, and companies in the oil and gas sector.
The use of fossil fuels in various economic sectors is the largest source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions worldwide. Among these gases, methane (CH4) stands out for its high global warming potential, almost 30 times greater than that of carbon dioxide (CO2).
In response to the threat posed by the impacts of climate change in the region, reducing methane emissions is a fundamental climate action strategy.
During the event, the progress of OLADE’s OEMLAC will be presented as a key tool for the region in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data on methane emissions. Additionally, panels and conferences will be held focusing on methane inventories and reduction.
We invite all interested parties to participate in this crucial event for the energy and environmental future of our region.
