Andrés Rebolledo, Executive Secretary of OLADE participated in the meeting “Electricity and Renewable Energies – Energy Transition”

The executive secretary of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) participated in the meeting “Electricity and Renewable Energies – Energy Transition”, which took place last Thursday, June 15 at the Swissôtel – Quito. This event was attended by experts on the subject from several Latin American countries, as well as authorities such as the Minister of Energy and Mines of Ecuador, Fernando Santos Alvite; José Dávalos, Minister of the Environment of Ecuador; and Juan Carlos de la Hoz, Representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Ecuador.

During his speech, OLADE’s executive secretary spoke about energy transitions in Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighting the importance of having a pricing policy design that includes adequate taxation based on sustainability criteria. In addition, he highlighted the growth of regional energy supply, which in the last 50 years has increased 2.3 times.

In relation to renewable energies, he emphasized that the decarbonization of sectors such as transport and industry requires the creation of an enabling environment for the development of electromobility and the implementation of energy efficiency measures. He also stressed the importance of leveraging the advantages of Latin America and the Caribbean for the creation of a green hydrogen market, boosting its financing and learning from the lessons of pilot projects.
