The global energy transformation, one of the topics discussed during PRE COP 25 in Costa Rica

The Latin American Energy Organization (Olade) participated in the Regional Workshop on the Energy Transition in Latin America; this, as one of the activities of the preparatory meeting for the Conference of the Parties (COP), of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), PRE COP 25, which was held in the City of San José, Costa Rica, on October 7 and 8, 2019.

Olade participated through the Director of Projects and Information Studies, Andrés Schuschny, who intervened in the first panel discussion where he spoke on Global Energy Transformation.

This activity aimed to support the efforts of Latin American countries to undertake the transformation of their energy sector, through the exchange of experiences, lessons learned and good practices in the development and implementation of decarbonization strategies, driven by renewable energies, energy efficiency and electrification.

The International Renewable Energies Agency (IRENA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) of Costa Rica and the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ), were the entities responsible for organizing said workshop.

Subsequently, the Director of Projects and Information Studies of Olade, presented the Role of Decentralized Solutions based on Renewable Energies and participated during the panel: Decarbonization of the heating and cooling sectors.

On Wednesday, October 9, Olade, with the collaboration of IRENA, organized a parallel event called “NDCs in times of energy transition”. On this occasion the Director of Projects and Information Studies of the Organization presented the study carried out by Olade: NDCs and Energy Policy in Latin America and the Caribbean (see the publication at https://bit.ly/2oU6ZB7).
