The availability of high quality energy statistics and information has been identified as critical for the implementation of sustainable energy projects within the CARICOM (Caribbean Community) countries.
Given this scenario, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and CARICOM held the Workshop on Renewable Energy Statistics in the city of Bridgetown in Barbados, from November 27 to 29, 2019.
Event where the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade), through its consulting team, formed by David Delgado and Valeria Balseca, informed the importance of an adequate management of energy statistics, as well as the methodological harmonization process of energy balances with the international standards carried out by the Organization for the entire region.
In this regard, the workshop sought to create technical capabilities within countries to collect, validate and analyze energy statistics, including renewable energy, following international best practices, considering internationally agreed definitions and methodologies.
The workshop was attended by national statisticians and government officials responsible for energy data, who had the opportunity to share their experience of collecting energy data in their respective countries to identify challenges and good practices.
This type of workshops promotes the proper management of energy statistics in the region, promoting more sustainable development of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
