Energy Outlook for Latin America and the Caribbean 2023

The publication presents more than 1,000 graphs containing detailed information on the recent evolution of the energy matrices of the 27 OLADE Member Countries, with the aim of providing the Latin American and Caribbean community with a source of knowledge on the energy profiles of the countries of the region on a common basis. It also includes an energy prospective exercise that presents a comparative analysis between two energy development scenarios for the LAC region: a reference scenario (BAU), with a base year of 2021 and a study horizon of 2050, which represents a projection of the energy systems of the different sub-regions related to the historical trends in the evolution of the energy sector and the expansion plans published by the countries for the short and medium term, which does not consider very significant changes in the mix of sources and technologies used in both final energy consumption and energy supply during the projection period; and as of 2025, an alternative scenario in which different accelerated decarbonization strategies are applied in the energy sector, aimed at contributing more effectively to achieving total carbon neutrality in the economies of the countries or subregions analyzed by 2050, which is called Pro Net-0. In this second scenario, the possibility of green hydrogen production in the region is modeled for the first time, intended not only to meet domestic demand for this energy vector, but also for export to extra-regional markets.
