The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) invite you to participate in the regional webinar: El Niño 2026–2027: Monitoring, forecasting, and expected impacts in the energy sector in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The WMO warns of an 80% probability of El Niño conditions developing between June and August 2026, and a 90% probability of persistence through November, with the potential to reach moderate to strong intensity. This phenomenon could significantly alter temperature and precipitation patterns across Latin America and the Caribbean, leading to:
• Prolonged droughts
• Heavy rainfall and flooding
• Changes in water availability
• Risks to hydropower generation and energy security
• Potential impacts on power generation, transmission, and energy demand
• Regional outlooks for Central America, the Caribbean, the Andean region, and the Southern Cone
• Contingency measures and best practices to strengthen operational resilience
Experts from the WMO, regional climate centers, energy operators, and sector authorities from Latin America and the Caribbean will participate.
