The new methodology for the preparation of energy balances based on international standards – IRES – was presented

As part of the “Program for Strengthening the Management and Dissemination of Energy Information for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean”, executed by the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) and financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), a Virtual Training Workshop on the Methodology for the Management of Energy Statistics was held.

The main focus of this training was to present to the energy community of the region the new methodology, developed by OLADE, for the preparation of energy balances based on international standards such as the International Recommendations for Energy Statistics (IRES), the implementation of which will provide standardized energy information and facilitate its management at a global level.

144 participants from both the public and private sectors from 17 Member Countries of the Organization (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela), participated in this activity which lasted 9 sessions that were developed in virtual modality.

During this period, topics addressed included: energy balance, energy infrastructure, reserves and potentials, calculation of greenhouse gas emissions, socioeconomics, indicators, electricity market and energy prices.

The workshop was conducted by the technical team of OLADE’s Directorate of Studies, Projects and Information, with the support of renowned professionals and specialists in the field.

At the end of the event, this joint effort and its benefits for the energy sector as a fundamental and transversal pillar for the economic and social development of the countries were highlighted, and OLADE’s commitment to continue working to strengthen capacities for the management and administration of energy information at the national and regional levels was ratified.
