The inauguration ceremony for the second term as Executive Secretary of Alfonso Blanco Bonilla was held

At the headquarters of the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade) in Quito-Ecuador, on the morning of January 13, 2020, in the memorial room of former Secretaries, the inauguration ceremony for the second term as Executive Secretary of Alfonso Blanco Bonilla for the period 2020-2022 was held.

The protocol was preceded by the Vice Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of the Republic of Ecuador, Gonzalo Uquillas and as an honorary witness, the First Secretary Consul of the Embassy of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay in Ecuador, Mateo D ‘Acosta.

The Vice Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Ecuador, Gonzalo Uquillas, said that “it is important to recognize the work done by the Latin American Energy Organization in the energy strengthening of Latin America and the Caribbean. Ecuador develops projects aimed at achieving greater electrical integration in the region.”

“In the country, electrical projects focused on energy sustainability are executed in order to supply national demand and optimally sell surpluses to other countries in the Region.”

For his part, the Executive Secretary of Olade, Alfonso Blanco Bonilla, said that in this new stage the Organization will continue to promote integration in the region to reduce energy access gaps, so that this resource has no borders, and the achievement of developed markets in energy matters.

“We have a really privileged energy sector, a region that is the greenest on the planet, but we still have great weaknesses and those weaknesses are those that Olade is trying to accompany to strengthen our entire region,” said the Olade’s Executive Secretary Alfonso Blanco.

In his speech he also highlighted that it has been possible to consolidate a vision in which it is understood that the energy sector needs the support of public policies, the action by the government and the establishment of the rules and the long-term vision of the energy sector. “From Olade we have tried to promote this aspect by working with all our member countries,” Olade’s Executive Secretary.

Likewise, the Executive Secretary added that the essence of regional integration is in the exchange of experiences between the countries of the region for mutual strengthening.
He also explained that in his first management period he has tried to focus the actions of the Organization in a strictly technical vision, but also identifying it as a political body.

“Today in our governance bodies all the countries of the region are seated and are benefiting from the great part of the lines of work that we have developed,” added the Secretary.

Among the lines of work developed, he highlighted the support for the development of public policies, the improvement of information systems, capacity building from training and platform development to achieve regional energy integration.

“Olade is an executing arm of many of the regional project instances. Channeling funding sources from international cooperation agencies and multilateral banks.”

The protocol of the inauguration was attended by the government authorities of the energy sector of Ecuador, the Diplomatic Corps accredited in the country and representatives of cooperation agencies, Multilateral Organizations and Universities.
