OLACDE promotes interregional technical dialogue on energy efficiency with Asia and Africa

The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) participated in the African Energy Efficiency Conference, an interregional technical event that brought together energy sector organizations from Asia, Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean, with the aim of deepening knowledge exchange and strengthening technical coordination on energy efficiency, recognized as a fundamental pillar of the energy transition.

Representing OLACDE, Chief of Staff Mijal Brady took part in the various sessions of the event, where regional progress and challenges in energy efficiency policies, regulatory frameworks, energy planning, and implementation mechanisms were discussed in detail. These sessions enabled the analysis of concrete experiences from the participating regions, the identification of areas of convergence, and the exploration of opportunities for interregional technical cooperation.

In particular, Brady participated in Plenary Session VI: “Accelerating Investment and Action to Drive Efficiency through the African Energy Efficiency Facility (AfEEF)”, alongside Ministers of Energy from Gambia, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, and Tunisia, as well as officials from the African Union and representatives of development banks across the continent. The session addressed innovative financing mechanisms, data digitalization, and technical capacity development as key enablers to accelerate energy efficiency projects in buildings, industry, power grids, and clean cooking.

Within the framework of the event, OLACDE’s Chief of Staff also held a high-level meeting with African counterparts aimed at strengthening technical cooperation between regions. During the meeting, strategic priorities and experiences related to shared challenges in the energy transition were discussed, with consensus on the need to move toward a more structured collaboration framework. Key outcomes included the assessment of establishing a formal cooperation instrument and the development of a Joint 2026 Work Plan, focused on technical coordination, shared planning, and strategic interregional cooperation.

In her interventions, Brady underscored the importance of this dialogue with energy organizations from Asia, Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean, aimed at exchanging experiences and best practices, addressing common challenges in energy efficiency, and strengthening interregional cooperation and coordination.

OLACDE’s participation in this event reaffirms its role in interregional energy cooperation between Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting the exchange of experiences in energy efficiency policies, a just energy transition, climate finance, energy productivity, and inclusive and sustainable development.
