This Technical Note, Perspectives on Low-Emission Hydrogen in Latin America and the Caribbean, presents an analysis of the current state of this fuel worldwide, with a particular focus on the region. It analyzes national objectives for the development of low-emission hydrogen in the short, medium, and long term.
The findings in this document are based on the analysis of hydrogen market development strategies across various countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, carried out within the framework of several activities related to this energy carrier, led by the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE). These initiatives aim to strengthen the region’s capacity to promote and implement low-emission hydrogen projects.
The information presented provides a regional comparison of the outlook for low-emission hydrogen in terms of i) production costs, ii) electrolysis capacity and renewable energy, iii) exports, iv) investments, v) job creation, among other relevant topics.
