The electricity sector in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) continue to play a fundamental role in supporting the region’s environmental sustainability and economic development. The regional electricity matrix, characterized by a strong presence of renewable sources, reflects the countries’ commitment to a fair and sustainable energy transition.
Within this framework, monthly monitoring of electricity generation enables detailed analysis of system dynamics, identification of short-term trends, and evaluation of progress in energy security and decarbonization efforts.
This technical report, prepared by OLADE with data updated through February 2025, provides a regional overview of electricity generation in LAC. It highlights the contribution of various energy sources and the most relevant variations, offering key insights into decision-making and energy planning processes.
