2025 July Newsletter

The July 2025 OLADE Newsletter highlights Latin America and the Caribbean’s significant progress in the transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy mix, with renewables accounting for 69% of the region’s electricity generation—the cleanest in the world. However, it underscores the substantial growth opportunity that exists, as only a small fraction of the available solar and hydroelectric potential is currently being harnessed. It also emphasizes the strategic importance of energy storage as a key element to address the variability of renewable sources and ensure a continuous and reliable electricity supply, with technologies such as battery energy storage systems (BESS) and pumped hydro storage taking a leading role in the region.

The newsletter also reflects the political and social commitment of Latin American countries, exemplified by the organization of landmark events such as the 10th Energy Week in Chile and the 7th CELAC Energy Ministerial Meeting, which promote regional energy integration, technological innovation, and the inclusion of new stakeholders such as youth and local communities. This process is supported by robust public policies, updated regulatory frameworks, and public–private partnerships, aiming for a fair and inclusive energy transition that creates opportunities for the region’s economic and social development.
