OLADE participates in the III edition of the event “Energy Transition and Security in Latin America and the Caribbean”

Quito hosted the III edition of the event “Energy Transition and Security in Latin America and the Caribbean”, a space that brought together regional experts to discuss governance, financing, innovation, and community participation in the context of the energy transition.

Representing the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), Fitzgerald Cantero, Director of Studies, Projects and Information, took part in the opening session presenting the “Global and Regional Context of the Energy Transition”, addressing trends, challenges, and opportunities for Latin America and the Caribbean on the path toward sustainable, resilient, and low-emission energy systems.

He also joined the panel discussion Challenges of the Energy Transition in LAC, alongside representatives from academic institutions, multilateral organizations, and regulatory agencies, in a collective reflection on possible pathways for a just transition.

Meanwhile, Tatiana Castillo, OLADE’s Legal Advisor, presented an analysis of the regulatory framework and public policies in the region, identifying opportunities, challenges, and best practices to drive the energy transition.

In her remarks, Castillo underlined that the energy transition is not only an environmental goal but also a comprehensive strategy to promote sustainable development, ensure energy security, and foster energy justice and social inclusion. She further emphasized the need for transformative policies, strong regulatory frameworks, green financing, and the recognition of energy as a human right, all essential to move toward sustainable, secure, and inclusive energy development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
