OLADE participates in AmeriGEO Week 2025 in Colombia

As part of AmeriGEO Week 2025, held at the National University of Colombia, the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) took part in the plenary session “How Satellite-Based Systems and Scientific Measurements Can Drive Methane Mitigation,” organized by the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) of the United Nations Environment Programme.

The session was moderated by María Alejandra Garzón, OLADE consultant, representing the Methane Emissions Observatory for Latin America and the Caribbean (OEMLAC), a regional initiative aimed at consolidating reliable information and fostering cooperation for methane emissions reduction.

The panel brought together representatives from Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil, including national authorities and technical experts, who shared experiences on the use of satellite data and field measurements to reinforce methane mitigation strategies. Participants emphasized the importance of inter-institutional and cross-sectoral coordination to accelerate climate action in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Through this participation, OLADE reaffirms its commitment to promoting regional initiatives that strengthen countries’ capacity in the measurement, reporting, and mitigation of emissions, contributing to global climate goals and the development of a more sustainable energy sector.
