Gastón Siroit, Technical Advisor at the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), took part in the Paris Peace Forum 2025, joining the roundtable “10 Years After the Adoption of the Paris Agreement: Accelerating Action”, held at the Musée de la Marine in Paris.
The event gathered global energy leaders, multilateral institutions, and government representatives to discuss the progress and challenges in implementing climate action policies.
The session focused on methane emissions reduction in the energy sector, highlighting its potential as one of the most effective measures to limit global warming within this decade.
Siroit presented updates from the Latin America and Caribbean Methane Observatory, an OLADE-led initiative aimed at enhancing methane emissions measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems and fostering regional transparency in meeting climate goals.
He also shared recent developments in low-emission natural gas certification, emphasizing the need for regional cooperation to create common methane intensity standards that support both competitiveness and sustainability in the Latin American energy sector.
“Reducing methane emissions is one of the most cost-effective opportunities to meet the Paris Agreement goals. The region has both the potential and the responsibility to lead through concrete solutions and technical cooperation,” Siroit stated.
