The June edition of the OLACDE Newsletter highlights a pivotal moment for Latin America and the Caribbean as the region seeks to consolidate its leadership in the global energy landscape. OLACDE advanced the Regional Indicative Electricity Interconnection Plan toward 2040, a roadmap designed to strengthen energy integration, enhance security of supply, and boost regional competitiveness through 16 strategic infrastructure projects and progress toward a future Energy Integration Treaty. The newsletter also highlights the III Regional Methane Summit and efforts to strengthen regional cooperation to accelerate a more sustainable energy transition.
On the technical front, OLACDE reports that the region continues to have one of the cleanest electricity mixes in the world, with 67.7% of electricity generation coming from renewable sources, while making progress in diversifying non-conventional energy sources and recording growth in oil and natural gas production. The newsletter also examines the impact of geopolitical tensions on regional energy inflation and reaffirms OLACDE’s commitment to capacity building, international cooperation, and the production of strategic information to support energy security and sustainable development across Latin America and the Caribbean.
