The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) and CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean — will convene in São Paulo the high-level event “MERCOSUR and Chile: Towards a Regional Gas Market”, to be held on May 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hilton São Paulo Morumbi Hotel. The opening session will be attended by authorities from both organizations and leading regional energy companies.
The meeting marks the conclusion of Phase V of the Regional Gas Integration Project for MERCOSUR and Chile, under which OLACDE and CAF, together with government representatives, the private sector and regulators, conducted a comparative assessment of existing infrastructure and regulatory frameworks to identify opportunities for the development of the regional natural gas market. The analysis examines the performance of the gas transportation system under various scenarios of gas supply and demand, as well as the security of supply for countries in the Southern Cone.
The four panels will address key topics such as energy security and the geopolitical context of natural gas in the region; the necessary changes to advance toward a regional market; the current gas supply situation and distribution-related risks among countries; and the demand for gas in the context of decarbonization and the energy transition.
The event may also be followed live throughout the region via OLACDE’s YouTube channel.
