2026 March Newsletter

The OLACDE March 2026 Newsletter highlights the progress and challenges of Latin America and the Caribbean in their energy transition. The region, with nearly 70% of its electricity generation coming from renewable sources such as hydroelectric power, faces the paradox of having a clean electric matrix that contrasts with the persistent dependence on oil in key sectors like transportation and industry. This context underscores the need to accelerate electrification, the development of sustainable biofuels, and low-emission hydrogen, as well as to promote regional energy integration to improve resilience and security amid the volatility of international markets.

Additionally, the bulletin emphasizes strategic events such as the XI Energy Week in the Dominican Republic, which will strengthen dialogue on just energy transition, innovation, and energy security, and OLACDE’s active participation in international forums and regional projects, including the certification of low-emission hydrogen and methane emissions mitigation in Colombia. It also highlights the importance of promoting female leadership in the energy transition through the Latin American-Caribbean Network of Women in Energy (RedLACME), as key to building inclusive, sustainable, and competitive energy systems.
