This publication analyzes the relationship between the mining industry and the electricity sector in Latin America and the Caribbean. The document projects the growth of the sector’s electricity demand through 2034, offering an assessment of the role of large-scale mining as a driver of modernization and infrastructure development.
Through this analysis, the power requirements and transmission challenges necessary to sustain efficient and sustainable mining operations in the region are identified. The results reveal a potential 62% increase in the sector’s electricity demand by 2034, and also detail the required installed capacity, the integration of clean energy into extractive operations, and the energy planning strategies needed to support the growth of this industry.
