Report N° 7 Electricity Generation in Latin America and the Caribbean

In June 2025, total electricity generation in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) decreased by 6% compared to May of the same year, due to lower electricity demand. However, the renewability index of this generation increased by two percentage points, reaching 71%, the highest value recorded in the first half of 2025. In year-on-year terms, total generation in June was 5% higher than that of the same month in the previous year.

Regarding the contribution of different energy sources, hydropower and natural gas continued to dominate, accounting for around 72% of total generation, while non-conventional renewable sources such as wind and solar energy together reached a 15% share.

In June, all energy sources reduced their contribution to total generation compared to the previous month, with the sole exception of bioenergy, which increased by 2 TWh.
