The project on Vulnerability to climate change and measures for the adaptation of hydroelectric systems in Andean countries is in progress.

With the purpose of evaluating the impact of climate change on the availability of hydroelectric resources in the countries of the Andean Sub-region (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela) and proposing adaptation measures to this phenomenon, Olade, with the financial support of the IDB is developing the project called “Vulnerability to climate change and measures for the adaptation of hydroelectric systems in Andean countries”.

In order to carry out this project, an international consortium of institutions with expertise in the issues inherent in the project was formed, with the participation of the Spanish Tecnalia Foundation, which has been responsible for carrying out the different components of the study since March 2017.

Components 1 and 2 of the project, on the collection of background information for the study and the development of a sub-regional hydrological model, respectively are now completed.

The study contemplates an analysis methodology to be applied to pilot hydropower projects in each of the beneficiary countries, which can then be easily replicated in other hydrographic basins and hydroelectric developments.

To complement this project, training on this methodology is planned for the main stakeholders involved in the planning and management of the hydropower sector in each country. The project is expected to be completed in April 2019.

At present, Olade, together with the institutions participating in the consortium, are in the dissemination process of the first components of the project that have been completed. We invite our entire energy community to remain informed through our official social networking : Twitter @OLADEORG - Facebook OLADE.ORG and LinkedIn OLADE Latin American Energy Organization.
