From October 23 to 25, 2018 in Mexico City, the International Forum on Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights (DESCA) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was held. Space where Olade participated through the Director of Studies, Projects and Information, Andrés Schuschny, who made a presentation in the session “Challenges for the implementation of affordable, sustainable and modern energy for all”, where he highlighted global trends and regional issues in terms of access to energy, renewable energies and energy efficiency.
During this session, the Director Andrés Schuschny, also presented the activities carried out by OLADE in Latin America and the Caribbean, in relation to the three goals set out in SDG 7 of the 2030 Global Agenda for Sustainable Development and raised the major challenges that the region has ahead.
During the development of the event there was a profound debate on the Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights (DESCA), a discussion that gave rise to themes about the various challenges that the region has such as ending poverty and hunger, achieving universal and equitable access to water, sanitation and sustainable energies.
This meeting also highlighted the interest in strengthening employment and the protection of the human right to work, as well as the importance of developing resilient and quality infrastructures to support economic development and human well-being.
The challenge of combating climate change; make sustainable use of marine and terrestrial ecosystems; strengthen institutions, the Rule of Law and promote the creation of alliances to invigorate international cooperation, were also addressed in the Forum.
The International Forum DESCA was organized by the National Human Rights Commission of the Mexican Government and the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations Organization.
