The Latin American Energy Organization (Olade), the National Administration of Power Plants and Transmissions of Uruguay (UTE) and Empresa Eléctrica Quito S.A. (EEQ) of Ecuador sign an inter-institutional cooperation agreement

Quito-Ecuador, Monday, April 29, 2019.- The Executive Secretary of the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade), Alfonso Blanco; the General Manager of Empresa Electrica Quito S.A. (EEQ) of Ecuador, Jaime Bucheli Albán; and the National Administration of Power Plants and Transmissions of Uruguay (UTE), sign an inter-institutional cooperation agreement for the development of regional integration and energy development activities.

The Executive Secretary of Olade, Alfonso Blanco, stressed that this experience will be like the flagship to “generate a synergy between regional actors in the electricity sector that somehow manage to strengthen the actions of each company”.

For his part, the General Manager of the EEQ, Jaime Bucheli, pointed out the importance of the Agreement for the Company and thanked UTE for the openness to share their knowledge and experiences considering that they have similar scenarios to the EEQ, which will allow “the exchange of experiences for standardization, homologation, products and projects “. It will be an opportunity to share experiences of interest such as the control of losses with users and other issues, he said.

From Uruguay, via videoconference, Fernando López, Manager of External Consulting of UTE, said that this is the beginning of a fruitful relationship for both companies, which have the same objectives. For his part, Juan Carlos Patrone, Market Manager, highlighted the opportunity that this Agreement implies to strengthen a link between the entities involved.

This inter-institutional agreement will focus on issues of the South-South cooperation as a priority; technical assistance and advice; energy efficiency; renewable sources; electricity and training; and other complementary areas, which will allow the sharing of experiences and relevant projects that can be replicated for the benefit of the populations served by both electric companies.

Olade will facilitate the contact and the arrangements that derive from this tripartite agreement.

Data on UTE and EEQ

UTE, is a company owned by the Uruguayan State that is dedicated to the activities of generation, transmission, distribution and commercialization of electrical energy, provision of annexed services and consultancies. It satisfies the demand of one million two hundred thousand customers located in the 176,215 km2 of the national territory. UTE has hydro, wind and thermal power plants. The production is complemented by the energy coming from the Salto Grande Hydroelectric Plant.

EEQ, is an anonymous, civil and mercantile Ecuadorian company constituted by public deed signed on September 29, 1955, dedicated to the generation, subtransmission, distribution and commercialization of electricity in the city of Quito and concession area, in process of transformation to public company.
