OLADE participated in the first international event on critical minerals and clean energy organized by the International Energy Agency (IEA) “Critical Minerals and Clean Energy Summit”.

The Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) participated in the first international event on critical minerals and clean energy, the “Critical Minerals and Clean Energy Summit”, organized by the International Energy Agency (IEA).

During the day, which was attended by Gastón Siroit, Specialist Consultant in Critical and Strategic Minerals of OLADE, fundamental challenges were addressed such as mining diversification, decentralization of production and refining, progress in technology and recycling, as well as the ESG framework (environmental, social and governance aspects) and integration with communities. All this with the aim of ensuring sustainable and beneficial mining for the communities.

Gastón Siroit, Specialist Consultant in Critical and Strategic Minerals of OLADE, in his speech presented the position of Latin America and the Caribbean on the need to scale investments to diversify mineral extraction and refining, take advantage of the opportunities of the circular economy and recycling through technological progress, and redouble efforts to promote transparency, traceability and sustainability in the supply chain.

Representatives from more than 50 countries, investors, mining groups, development banks and cooperation agencies participated in this event. The purpose of the event was to discuss and develop cooperation and coordination strategies to ensure the supply of critical minerals, whose demand is growing exponentially.
