Launch of the VIII Energy Week and I Latin American Energy Transition Investment Forum.

The Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) have officially launched the VIII Energy Week and the Latin American Energy Transition Investment Forum. This event will be held in Montevideo from November 6 to 10, 2023.

Montevideo will host both activities, which will take place between November 6 and 10, 2023. The Energy Week is one of the main platforms for political and strategic dialogue on energy issues at the regional level. The IRENA Investment Forum will bring together governments, financial institutions and private sector companies, both regional and global, with the aim of boosting investment in renewable energy projects in Latin America.

These activities were launched on Thursday, August 17, in the auditorium of the Annex Building of the Executive Tower. During the ceremony, speeches were made by the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Omar Paganini; the National Director of Energy, Fitzgerald Cantero; the Executive Secretary of OLADE, Andrés Rebolledo; the representative of the IDB Group in Uruguay, Luiz Ros; as well as the IDB Group’s Energy sector specialist in Uruguay, Cecilia Correa. Also present were the head of the IDB Group’s Energy Division, Marcelino Madrigal, and the Director General of Irena, Francesco La Camera.

High-level dignitaries participated in the event, representing both the organizing institutions and other entities from Latin America and the Caribbean. The MIEM was represented by the General Director of the Secretariat, Elisa Facio; the National Director of Industries, Susana Pecoy; and the National Director of Handicrafts, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Gonzalo Maciel.

“It is an honor to invite you to the Energy Week that we are organizing together with OLADE and the IRENA Energy Transition Investment Forum,” said Minister Paganini at the opening of the event. Paganini stressed that these two joint activities will constitute “an excellent platform to share experiences, exchange knowledge and promote investments that accelerate this energy transition.” In his role as host country, Paganini stressed that this is the ideal occasion to showcase progress, establish alliances, learn about new technologies and developments.

Andrés Rebolledo, Executive Secretary of the Latin American Energy Organization, stressed that Energy Week is one of the main spaces for political and strategic dialogue in the energy field at the regional level. Meanwhile, the IRENA Investment Forum will bring together regional and global governments, financial institutions and private sector companies, seeking to accelerate investments in renewable energy projects in Latin America.

At the same time, Francesco La Camera, Director General of Irena, said that the Energy Transition Investment Forum will be a relevant milestone for the region to evaluate the achievements in this path, in addition to accelerating investments and strengthening regional collaboration. Investment Forums are a critical component in the agency’s strategy to support the mobilization of investments in our member countries’ energy transitions.
