During the III National Day of Energy Efficiency (Argentina) Olade presented the Comparative Study of Energy Efficiency Laws in Latin America

The Latin American Energy Organization (Olade), through the Executive Secretary, Alfonso Blanco, presented the Comparative Study of Energy Efficiency Laws at the Latin American level, during the III JNEE Conference – International Efficiency Experiences; meeting that took place in Buenos Aires-Argentina on June 7, 2019.

Through this study, the Executive Secretary, Alfonso Blanco, informed that Olade is currently monitoring and accompanying the construction of energy efficiency legislation in Argentina and provides comparative material with regional regulation that serves as input for the discussion and incorporation into legislation.

Among the issues presented by the Executive Secretary, he explained what are the regulatory and legislative changes that are necessary to promote energy efficiency and its motivations.  He added that “energy efficiency has the real capacity to effectively influence global energy demand and even more so when economic rearrangements occur globally and many emerging economies are strongly incorporated into the demand scenario.”

“Energy efficiency gradually begins to take a role in the energy policy of nations, giving the energy sector the necessary dimension to act on the demand side.” Said during his presentation the Executive Secretary of Olade, Alfonso Blanco.

He also mentioned that the need to “legislate”, in Energy Efficiency, is based on the multisectoral nature of the actions necessary to break down identified market barriers, that make it impossible to take advantage of the potential for improvement in the use of energy resources, which is translated into a loss of social welfare.

“There is a positive effect in the economy as a whole that translates into growth, improved competitiveness, reduced emissions, improved social equity and the development of new business opportunities and capabilities.” He pointed out.
