However, the regional impact on this global objective is relatively low, considering that LAC contributes only about 8% of the planet&#8217;s total CO2e emissions and its energy sector only 3.5%. On the contrary, the region&#8217;s energy sector may be highly sensitive and vulnerable to the impact of climate change and face risks related both to the loss of productivity and to the stability and integrity of the energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>OLACDE, in this sense, has managed resources and executed projects related to the adaptation of the regional energy sector to climate change, such as the one entitled &#8220;Incidence of climate change on energy planning: screening for the global assessment of vulnerability and climate risks of the energy system in Latin America and the Caribbean &#8211; Screen-ALC&#8221;, developed between 2020 and 2021, with funding from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and with technical assistance from Fundaci\u00f3n Tecnalia, whose executive summary is made available to the public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The initiatives to decarbonize the energy sector in Latin America and the Caribbean are important and consistent with the global situation and with the international commitments made by the countries of the region to contribute to climate change mitigation.
