As part of ExpoEnerg\u00eda Per\u00fa 2025, the Director of Studies, Projects, and Information at The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), Fitzgerald Cantero, participated in the high-level panel \u201cDeveloping Energy Transition Scenarios in Latin America and Current Trends\u201d, where he offered a comprehensive overview of the region\u2019s trajectory toward a more sustainable energy model.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Cantero highlighted the strategic role of Latin America and the Caribbean in the global energy transition, emphasizing that the region has abundant renewable resources, strong technical capacity, and increasing social and environmental awareness. However, he stressed that harnessing this potential requires progress in five key areas:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Strengthening institutional and regulatory frameworks, ensuring energy governance and stability.
\n\u2022 Attracting long-term investment, underpinned by clear and predictable rules.
\n\u2022 Developing and retaining local talent, with a focus on technical skills and just transition leadership.
\n\u2022 Securing social license for energy projects, through inclusive dialogue and equitable practices.
\n\u2022 Improving transparency around energy system costs, to build trust and fiscal sustainability.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have the potential and the resources. What we need now is planning, regional integration, and a long-term vision,\u201d stated Cantero, calling for coordinated action across governments, industry, and civil society.<\/p>\n
The panel enabled a frank exchange of perspectives, identification of key regional opportunities, and recognition of the technical and political challenges that must be addressed to ensure a just, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition across Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n
Through OLACDE, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting member countries with technical cooperation, data-driven planning, and regional integration, in order to accelerate a fair and resilient transformation of the region\u2019s energy systems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
