The report includes data on electricity generation, the share of different energy sources, as well as year-on-year, monthly, and seasonal comparisons.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"647\" data-end=\"789\">This edition includes not only data for December 2024, but also a comprehensive analysis of electricity generation throughout the entire year.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"791\" data-end=\"1038\">In 2024, Latin America and the Caribbean recorded a <strong data-start=\"843\" data-end=\"886\">5.5% increase in electricity generation<\/strong>, driven mainly by the expansion of wind and solar photovoltaic power plants, as well as a greater share of natural gas in the regional electricity mix.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1040\" data-end=\"1098\"><strong data-start=\"1040\" data-end=\"1098\">Breakdown of electricity generation by source in 2024:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1099\" data-end=\"1257\">\n<li data-start=\"1099\" data-end=\"1118\">Hydropower: 45%<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1119\" data-end=\"1139\">Natural gas: 25%<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1140\" data-end=\"1153\">Wind: 12%<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1154\" data-end=\"1167\">Solar: 7%<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1168\" data-end=\"1185\">Bioenergy: 4%<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1186\" data-end=\"1198\">Coal: 2%<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1199\" data-end=\"1214\">Nuclear: 2%<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1215\" data-end=\"1238\">Oil derivatives: 2%<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1239\" data-end=\"1257\">Geothermal: 1%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1259\" data-end=\"1424\">Thanks to this diversification, the <strong data-start=\"1295\" data-end=\"1317\">renewability index<\/strong> \u2014 which measures the share of electricity generated from renewable sources \u2014 reached a remarkable <strong data-start=\"1416\" data-end=\"1423\">69%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1426\" data-end=\"1468\"><strong data-start=\"1426\" data-end=\"1468\">Monthly trends show seasonal patterns:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1469\" data-end=\"1671\">\n<li data-start=\"1469\" data-end=\"1512\">August 2023: generation peak of 151 TWh<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1513\" data-end=\"1562\">May 2024: annual peak generation with 159 TWh<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1563\" data-end=\"1671\">December 2024: 149 TWh, representing a <strong data-start=\"1604\" data-end=\"1634\">1.3% year-on-year increase<\/strong> compared to the same month in 2023<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1673\" data-end=\"1967\">\n<p data-start=\"1673\" data-end=\"1967\">In December 2024, hydropower led with <strong data-start=\"1711\" data-end=\"1718\">46%<\/strong> of the generation mix, and total renewable generation reached <strong data-start=\"1781\" data-end=\"1792\">109 TWh<\/strong>. The report highlights that around ten countries in the region surpassed <strong data-start=\"1866\" data-end=\"1886\">75% renewability<\/strong>, while significant reductions in the use of non-renewable sources were observed:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1968\" data-end=\"2016\">\n<li data-start=\"1968\" data-end=\"1997\">Oil derivatives: <strong data-start=\"1987\" data-end=\"1995\">-62%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1998\" data-end=\"2016\">Coal: <strong data-start=\"2006\" data-end=\"2014\">-49%<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2018\" data-end=\"2241\">\n<p data-start=\"2018\" data-end=\"2241\">This progress reaffirms the region\u2019s commitment to sustainability and energy security, positioning <strong data-start=\"2117\" data-end=\"2241\">Latin America and the Caribbean as a global leader in the transition to a cleaner and more resilient electricity system.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2243\"
