With the aim of accelerating the transition to electric mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean, The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) and BYD presented their second workshop “Electric Mobility: Success Stories” as part of the curriculum of the ETRELA project “Improving, increasing and facilitating access to education and training in renewable energy in Latin America” by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the Government of Germany.<\/p>\n

Electric mobility has established itself as a cornerstone in the transformation of the transportation sector, not only for its contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, but also for its tangible benefits for public health and the economy of countries.<\/p>\n

The workshop included opening remarks by OLACDE’s Executive Secretary, Andr\u00e9s Rebolledo, Jorge Burbano, BYD Country Manager, and OLACDE’s Director of Energy Integration, Access and Security, Gloria Alvarenga.<\/p>\n

The Executive Secretary of OLACDE, Andr\u00e9s Rebolledo, said that this series of workshops on Electric Mobility will present experiences of countries in the region as part of an agreement with BYD, in order to showcase this technology and share the challenges and advantages with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, to achieve the decarbonization of our economies as a whole. Rebolledo said: “With this workshop we continue to share experiences on electric mobility, its impact on the decarbonization of our economies and the challenges for its development”.<\/p>\n

Jorge Burbano, Country Manager of BYD Ecuador, highlighted the extensive experience in mobility that they wish to share within the framework of this cooperation with OLACDE. From an operational point of view, it allows us to reduce the operating costs of the units, improve the quality of the transport service, road safety and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Burbano emphasized: “We are already seeing in our Latin American countries how urgent it is to act immediately.”<\/p>\n

OLACDE’s Director of Energy Integration, Access and Security, Gloria Alvarenga, said that the implementation of electric mobility in the area of freight transportation benefits the environment by reducing polluting emissions and promotes innovation and job creation, while offering a cost-effective solution in the long term by reducing operating and maintenance costs.<\/p>\n

In this workshop, successful cases of electromobility implementation in freight transport were presented with keynote speeches by Ana Patricia Vintimilla, Founder of ONE PLUS ONE OPO S.A, Jorge Chicaiza, Director of the Research Center of the Ecuadorian Chamber of Transport and Logistics Companies, and \u00c1ngel Coyago, After Sales Manager of BYD Ecuador.<\/p>\n

Electromobility is an urgent necessity in the fight against climate change and environmental pollution, according to success stories presented. It is crucial to recognize their strategic importance and take measures to promote their adoption in public transport, including incentive policies, expansion of recharging infrastructure and awareness programs to encourage sustainable mobility.<\/p>\n
