{"id":19383,"date":"2024-02-23T12:22:23","date_gmt":"2024-02-23T17:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.olade.org\/?post_type=noticias&#038;p=19383"},"modified":"2024-02-23T13:30:18","modified_gmt":"2024-02-23T18:30:18","slug":"the-latin-american-energy-organization-OLACDE-and-byd-join-forces-to-drive-the-transition-towards-electric-vehicles-in-the-region","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/www.olade.org\/en\/noticias\/the-latin-american-energy-organization-OLACDE-and-byd-join-forces-to-drive-the-transition-towards-electric-vehicles-in-the-region\/","title":{"rendered":"The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) and BYD join forces to drive the transition towards electric vehicles in the region."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aiming to accelerate the transition to electric mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean, The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) and BYD held their first workshop &#8220;Electric mobility: Success stories and challenges of its implementation in public and commercial transport in Latin America&#8221;, within the framework of OLACDE&#8217;s training plan.<\/p>\n<p>Electric mobility is a cornerstone in the transformation of the transportation sector, not only for its contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, but also for its benefits for public health and the economy of the countries.<\/p>\n<p>OLACDE&#8217;s Executive Secretary, Andr\u00e9s Rebolledo, said that this is the first of a series of workshops on Electric Mobility that will present experiences of countries in the region within the framework of an agreement with BYD, which aims to make this technology visible and share the challenges and advantages with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, to achieve the decarbonization of our economies.<\/p>\n<p>Jorge Burbano, Country Manager of BYD Ecuador, highlighted the extensive experience in mobility that they wish to share within the framework of this cooperation with OLACDE. The energy transition is a win-win for everyone. From the operational point of view, it allows us to reduce the operating costs of the units, improve the quality of transport service, road safety and reduce dependence on fossil fuels; and for some countries to reduce subsidy costs&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice Minister of Electricity of Ecuador, Ramiro D\u00edaz, highlighted the importance of promoting actions and working decisively on energy transition and the need for efficient transportation to mitigate climate change. He pointed out that the workshops that are starting today will help lay the foundations for a decisive drive in this direction.<\/p>\n<p>In this workshop, successful cases of electromobility implementation in public transportation in Latin America were presented, such as the case of Chile, presented by Rodrigo Salcedo Campino, President of AVEC; Jos\u00e9 Silva, President of SAUCINC S.A. (Ecuador) and Marcos Ataya of Transporte Transmilenio of Colombia.<\/p>\n<p>Among the success stories, emphasis was placed on the fact that electromobility is not only a desirable option, but an urgent necessity in the fight against climate change and environmental pollution. It is time for Latin America and the Caribbean to join the vanguard of the electric revolution in public transportation, and thus build a cleaner, safer and more prosperous future for all.<\/p>\n<p>It is critical that concrete steps are taken to promote its adoption in public transport.
