The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) participated in the first international event on critical minerals and clean energy, the “Critical Minerals and Clean Energy Summit”, organized by the International Energy Agency (IEA).<\/p>\n
During the day, which was attended by Gast\u00f3n Siroit, Specialist Consultant in Critical and Strategic Minerals of OLACDE, fundamental challenges were addressed such as mining diversification, decentralization of production and refining, progress in technology and recycling, as well as the ESG framework (environmental, social and governance aspects) and integration with communities. All this with the aim of ensuring sustainable and beneficial mining for the communities.<\/p>\n
Gast\u00f3n Siroit, Specialist Consultant in Critical and Strategic Minerals of OLACDE, in his speech presented the position of Latin America and the Caribbean on the need to scale investments to diversify mineral extraction and refining, take advantage of the opportunities of the circular economy and recycling through technological progress, and redouble efforts to promote transparency, traceability and sustainability in the supply chain.<\/p>\n
Representatives from more than 50 countries, investors, mining groups, development banks and cooperation agencies participated in this event. The purpose of the event was to discuss and develop cooperation and coordination strategies to ensure the supply of critical minerals, whose demand is growing exponentially.<\/p>\n
