\u00a0<\/strong>As part of the Latin American Congress of Energy Districts being held in Cartagena, Colombia, the Director of Studies, Projects and Information of The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), Medardo Cadena, participated in the panel dedicated to the Energy Transition.<\/p>\n

During his speech, Cadena referred to the various paths that the countries of the region follow in their energy transition processes. He addressed the existing asymmetries in institutional, regulatory and normative issues, underlining the need to design markets according to new schemes that adjust to the changing realities and needs of the energy sector and the population in Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the importance of energy districts as a mechanism to reduce emissions and as a tool to improve energy efficiency and the population’s access to energy and services. He stressed the urgency of addressing the needs of the population that still lacks access to energy.<\/p>\n

The panel was moderated by Nicol\u00e1s Rinc\u00f3n Munar, of the National Planning Department – DNP Colombia, and also included the participation of Mar\u00eda Victoria Ram\u00edrez, of the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia; Rub\u00e9n Eduardo Mu\u00f1oz, of the Ministry of Energy of Chile; and Washington Barriga, of the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries of Ecuador.<\/p>\n

The Congress is being organized by the Thermal Districts in Colombia Phase II project, led by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, and the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Development of Colombia, with the support of the Colombian Association of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration \u2013 ACAIRE and the support of the Swiss Embassy in Colombia.<\/p>\n
