The Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia and The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), organize the webinar “Thermal Districts in Latin America,” scheduled for September 1st, scheduled for September 1st.<\/p>\n
During this webinar, the case study of thermal districts in Colombia and Chile and the multiple benefits they offer in terms of resources, climate, health and job creation will be presented. And their contribution to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n
Energy districts represent critically needed energy infrastructures for energy efficiency and decarbonization development pathways for cities and industries.<\/p>\n
Total energy consumption in Latin America is projected to increase by 57% by 2050, well above the targets set by countries in their national climate and sustainable development strategies and commitments.<\/p>\n
In this sense, Latin American countries must accelerate actions to integrate renewable energies and improve the efficiency of their final energy consumption.<\/p>\n
In this context, UNEP estimated that the development of efficient thermal systems, such as energy districts, could contribute to the reduction of energy demand and GHG emissions of up to 58% of what the energy sector needs to achieve by 2050 in cities.<\/p>\n
This virtual event aims to provide a platform for stakeholders in Latin America to identify challenges, opportunities and the way forward for national and regional energy efficiency efforts, and the path towards a net zero carbon energy future.<\/p>\n
