The project “Elaboration of the Energy Balance in Terms of Useful Energy for the Industrial, Residential, Transport and\/or Commercial Sectors (BEU<\/span>, for its Spanish acronym)”, which is being developed in Ecuador, Panama and Paraguay, is progressing in its execution. A few days ago, a data entry center was installed to process the surveys collected in these three countries.<\/p>\n

This data entry center will extract information on energy consumption in the industrial sector of the three countries. This data is the main input for the preparation of the useful energy balances in each country.<\/p>\n

“We have set up a technical team in each country, headed by Fundaci\u00f3n Bariloche. In each of the countries we have a national coordinator and a survey director, a fundamental aspect for putting together the BEU, especially in the industrial and residential sectors, where information obtained in the field and in the interaction with users comes from,” explained OLACDE’s Studies, Projects and Information Director, Medardo Cadena, when welcoming the team of data entry clerks, who received training this week.<\/p>\n

The center is located at the headquarters of The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE). OLACDE already had this infrastructure and now it is being used by a team of 10 data entry clerks and a supervisor.<\/p>\n

In this first phase, the survey process begins in the industrial sector and in the next 4 months in the residential sector.<\/p>\n

During the training, Fundaci\u00f3n Bariloche explained how to use the system to process and validate the information gathered in the field on how energy is being used in these consumption groups (residential, industrial, transportation and others). “The data entry clerks are in charge of receiving all this information coming from the three countries and incorporating it into the system that Bariloche has developed for processing the information”, emphasized Medardo Cadena.<\/p>\n

The director highlighted Fundaci\u00f3n Bariloche’s experience in the preparation of useful energy balances in the Dominican Republic and Argentina, where they developed techniques and tools.<\/p>\n

The computer center is equipped with 12 computers: 6 for the data entry work of the surveys received and 6 for the external use of the validators in charge of Fundaci\u00f3n Bariloche, who will also review and verify the contents of the surveys in case of inconsistencies. These facilities have the technical support of OLACDE’s IT team, which is responsible for the technological infrastructure and use of the organization’s servers.<\/p>\n

The industrial survey data entry work began on Wednesday, April 6.<\/p>\n

About the BEU project<\/strong><\/p>\n

The project “Elaboration of the Energy Balance in Terms of Useful Energy for the Industrial, Residential, Transport and\/or Commercial Sectors (BEU)” is executed in Ecuador, Panama and Paraguay by The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) thanks to the financial support of the European Union’s Euroclima+ Program and the Spanish International Cooperation Agency for Development (AECID).<\/p>\n

The objective of the BEU Project is to strengthen the technical capacity of the institutions in charge of energy planning in the management of information on efficient energy use for the development and monitoring of energy efficiency policies and plans.<\/p>\n

The Useful Energy Balance will be a key tool for proper planning, as well as a mechanism for monitoring and evaluating energy efficiency measures implemented.<\/p>\n
