[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]With the objective of strengthening knowledge, of the officials of the Guyana Energy Agency and the Department of Energy of the Ministry of Natural Resources in Suriname, in the new harmonized methodology OLACDE – IRES for the management of energy statistics and construction of each National Energy Balance, the workshop on Capacity Building in the National Energy Balance Methodology (BEN) was developed, in the city of Georgetown-Guyana on December 10 and 11, 2019 and in the city of Paramaribo-Suriname on 30 and 31 January 2020.<\/p>\n

This training is carried out within the framework of the project \u201cStrengthening the Capacities of the Caribbean Energy Statistics\u201d, executed by The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) with the financial support of the World Bank.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop given by OLACDE’s technical team, made up of Valeria Balseca and David Delgado, included sessions of the balance methodology for oil and derivatives, natural gas, electricity and biofuels.<\/span><\/p>\n

The participants also learned about the management of information on consumption activities in the International Standard Industrial Classification ISIC revision 4, which allows improving the quality of statistical data in the national and energy sector, supporting sustainable energy planning in both countries (Guyana and Suriname).<\/span><\/p>\n

This space was also used to raise and define the functional requirements for the energy information systems, which will be implemented in these two countries, as part of the actions of the project “Strengthening the Capacities of the Caribbean Energy Statistics”.<\/span><\/p>\n

These systems will allow the appropriate management of the energy information of each country on the issues of national balance, infrastructure, prices, indicators, as well as storing files such as publications and legal documentation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Project Strengthening the Capacities of Caribbean Energy Statistics<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The project consists of two aspects; the first to develop 5 national information systems for Belize, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica and Suriname and the second to conduct training on energy planning tools and prospective scenarios.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this project, OLACDE seeks to increase the quality and optimize the dissemination of energy information in the region to promote the availability of harmonized energy statistics, with international standards to make the data management of the sector, become one of the pillars that promote the sustainable and inclusive development of our Member Countries.<\/span><\/p>\n
