[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Authorities of the Ecuadorian government support the Energy Efficiency Bill that is currently being analyzed by the National Assembly of Ecuador. This dialogue, to which the Executive Secretary of OLACDE, Alfonso Blanco, was summoned on the morning of May 9, 2018, received a favorable reply from other sectors.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Energy Efficiency Bill promoted by Ecuador aims to ensure that energy is used efficiently in homes, cars and production. This practice will lower costs, improve production and contribute to the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Executive Secretary of OLACDE, Alfonso Blanco, made some recommendations as part of the experience acquired in the drafting of the Energy Efficiency Law in Uruguay, of which he was part.<\/span><\/p>\n

He pointed out the importance of promoting energy efficiency through a law that regulates the actions aimed at achieving the goals of reduction and efficient use of energy. This path has been followed by several countries in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also stressed that \u201can energy efficiency law should provide for promotion and incentive mechanisms, not only as a sanction. It is necessary to create a market for energy-efficient goods and services that begins to function with a push for sectoral policies that consider using certification mechanisms\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

He suggested that investments, financing and incentives should be promoted to make good energy use sustainable.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also made reference to the advantage of keeping consumers informed about the energy consumption of the products they purchase. He stressed the importance of \u201cproviding clear and available information to enable consumers to make rational decisions for their own convenience\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor energy efficiency to penetrate, it has to be associated with developing a market and achieving an industry that is capable of exporting,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Minister of Industry of Ecuador, Eva Garc\u00eda, was present at the dialogue and said that the proposal is positive, but in order to be more operational it must include both incentives and stimuli. \u201cThis Ministry will collaborate on this issue.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Minister Garc\u00eda reported that they already have some experience with the industry, as they have signed three agreements to promote the efficient use of energy and have reformulated technical regulations.<\/span><\/p>\n

From the Association of Automotive Companies of Ecuador, Genaro Balde\u00f3n, said that everyone agrees to promote greater energy efficiency, but policies that apply to fuel quality, subsidies, taxes and attracting investment are accompanied by the consumption of fossil fuels.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Martin Cordovez, from the National Institute of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies, called for education on the subject at the basic level.<\/span><\/p>\n

Energy Efficiency Bill<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Energy Efficiency Law, promoted by the Ecuadorian Assemblyman, Esteban Albornoz, is in line with the Sustainable Development Objectives and corresponds to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.<\/span><\/p>\n
