[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Energy Efficiency study in Latin America and the Caribbean: Progress and Opportunities<\/strong>, developed by The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), was carried out within the framework of the SEforALL initiative.\u00a0 This document provides an overview of the status of energy efficiency in Latin America and the Caribbean, and an analysis of the legal, institutional, policy, programs, technical standards implemented, and the development of energy efficiency indicators.<\/p>\n

This publication includes the results of an energy prospective study with horizon to the year 2030, prepared by OLACDE, for which 2 energy scenarios were built, the first of a trend nature (BAU – Business as usual) in which the levels of usual energy consumption, and ongoing expansion plans, and the second energy efficiency scenario, which contemplates the application of a specific set of measures, both from the demand side as well as from the energy supply, complemented by policies to boost use of renewable energy sources.<\/p>\n

The results obtained from the comparison in both scenarios reflect important savings in terms of final energy consumption, electricity generation and total internal energy supply.<\/p>\n

In the case of the energy efficiency scenario, there are significant improvements in the renewability, intensity and energy autarky indicators, and in the CO2 emission factors of the total domestic energy supply.\u00a0 Additionally, a significant reduction in accumulated CO2 emissions is demonstrated.<\/p>\n

In this comparison exercise, it can be seen that, in the two scenarios, the final energy intensity shows decreasing trends in all sub-regions, however, only in the case of the energy efficiency scenario, the goal set in the framework of the initiative would be reached. of SEforALL.<\/p>\n

Content’s detail <\/strong><\/p>\n

This Energy Efficiency study in Latin America and the Caribbean<\/strong>, highlights the strengths and weaknesses that the region presents in institutional terms, and the impulse given to energy efficiency programs.\u00a0 It also analyzes the effects of the application of the premises of the alternative scenario on a set of indicators (energy, economic and environmental), with emphasis on compliance or not, of the objective of doubling the global index of improvement in energy efficiency.<\/p>\n

Additionally, a series of conclusions and recommendations are presented, which may contribute to the strengthening of energy efficiency activities in the countries of the region, and the attainment of the objectives proposed by SEforALL.<\/p>\n
