\nThe Ecuadorian Government, through the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and the Petro Ecuador Public Oil Company, handed over to OLACDE, the building where the Organization has remained for the last 33 years, in a definitive manner, through an event that took place the morning of Wednesday, May 17, 2017.
\nThe event was held this morning in Quito and was attended by the Executive Secretary of OLACDE, Alfonso Blanco, the Minister of Hydrocarbons, Jos\u00e9 Icaza Romero, the Vice Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Alfredo Samaniego, the Director General (D) of the Public Sector Real Estate Management Service, Milton Maldonado, the General Manager of EP Petro Ecuador, Jos\u00e9 Luis Cort\u00e1zar and the delegations of the Member Countries of the organization. It should be noted that this infrastructure has a land area of about 7,200 square meters, and 3,000 square meters of construction.<\/p>\n

During the ceremony, the Secretary of OLACDE, Alfonso Blanco, thanked the Government of Ecuador for the support provided to the organization reflected through the good offices of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, and reiterated the commitment to pay back to the local community through the actions that support its Relation to the energy sector.
\nFor his part, the EP Petro Ecuador Manager, Jos\u00e9 Luis Cort\u00e1zar, said that today the company can make a concrete action by handing over the building to OLACDE, by the public company to an agency that works for the benefit of the regional integration.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Hydrocarbons, Jos\u00e9 Icaza, said that this is an act that sets up a milestone for the region, especially for the Member Countries of OLACDE. “We didn\u2019t hesitate for a second when we decided to hand over the facilities to guarantee the development of the organization, according to the provisions of the Lima Agreement,” he said.<\/p>\n

Highlights
\n\u2022 In 1973, the creation of OLACDE was approved by the Lima Agreement signed at the beginning by the government authorities of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. Subsequently, other ratifications to the Agreement were received, completing the 27 Member Countries of the Latin America and the Caribbean that currently are part of OLACDE.
\n\u2022 On January 5, 1976, as recorded in the Official Register number 965, an Agreement on Privileges and Immunities was signed between the Government of Ecuador and The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization, in order to guarantee the necessary facilities for the better performance of the Organization in compliance with Article 30 of the Lima Agreement.
\n\u2022 On January 20, 1983, an Agreement was signed between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy of Ecuador and OLACDE, in which the Ministry undertakes to provide the physical facilities necessary for the Organization to develop its activities, with the perspective of evaluating alternatives to provide the Permanent Secretariat of OLACDE with its own building.
\n\u2022 OLACDE since its inception, has operated in several facilities which belonged to the Energy Ministry. On August 8, 1984, a loan contract was signed between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy and OLACDE, through which it was handed over the Selva Alegre Building, that at the time belonged to the Ecuadorean State Oil Corporation (CEPE), now EP Petro Ecuador, Located in the urbanization San Carlos, in the Avenue Mariscal Antonio Jose de Sucre, in Quito. This loan delivery was made in order so the organization could use the building for its operation and the development of its Headquarters\u2019 activities.<\/p>\n
