Energy Outlook of Latin America and the Caribbean 2020: The most relevant information on the energy sector of the Olade Member Countries

The Latin American Energy Organization (Olade), makes available the Spanish version of the Energy Outlook of Latin America and the Caribbean 2020.  The document presents the most relevant information on the energy sector of the Member Countries of the Organization, as well as aggregated data at a subregional and regional level for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) for the period 2000 – 2019, regarding energy supply and demand, installed capacity, electricity generation, indicators and socio-economic and environmental information.

Considering the current economic crisis, caused worldwide by the COVID – 19 pandemic, the Outlook includes a chapter on energy prospective for Latin America and the Caribbean, in which the impacts of this crisis on the energy sector are evaluated. The prospective was prepared with the “Model for Simulation and Analysis of the Energy Matrix (SAME)”, developed by Olade.

Additionally, a chapter is presented on the most relevant events that have occurred in the energy sector in different areas and subsectors. It also includes a chapter on “Legislation, regulation and energy policy” in which the changes that have taken place in the countries in this area are detailed.

We highlight that the information presented in the Energy Outlook of Latin America and the Caribbean 2020 constitutes an updated summary of the energy information that the Organization has and that can be consulted for free in the Energy Information System of Latin America and the Caribbean (sieLAC): http://sielac.olade.org

We hope that the Energy Outlook of Latin America and the Caribbean 2020 will contribute to a better understanding of the energy sector and be a reference for energy information for the countries of the region.
