According to the Moscow International Energy Club initiative a report on new energy technologies is prepared for the Club. This review is a part of the report and is mainly concerned with new technologies aimed at improving the end-use of energy. The possibilities of enhancing the efficiency of energy utilisation in industry, buildings, transportation, and agriculture are considered. In the industrial sector not only are the new technologies per se mentioned, in particular the dematerialisation concept, but also some possible institutional improvements are discussed. Examples of energy saving in buildings are given with emphasis on better insulation, advanced lighting, new glazing etc. In the transportation sector, along with the improvement of engines and vehicles, the importance of restructuring the traffic itself is stressed. Advanced biotechnologies are regarded as a key to dramatically decrease indirect energy comsumption in the agricultural sector..
