Thirty Dominican Republic officials were trained on the Energy Planning Manual of OLADE

One of the main objectives of OLADE is the capacity building in energy planning at regional level. Aligned with this objective, OLADE started the implementation of the Energy Planning Manual in the Dominican Republic, starting February 2016, with the financial support of the Government of Canada.

As part of this project, OLADE with the support of the National Energy Commission of the Dominican Republic (CNE), performed the Introductory Workshop of the Manual on Energy Planning and the Technical Review Meeting and progress of the Energy Diagnosis on April 21, 2016. These events were held in the city of Santo Domingo at the headquarters of CNE.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Hipolito Nunez, representative of the Executive Director of the institution, who stressed the importance of energy planning as a core axis within the activities of the CNE. The workshop was also attended by the Director of Planning and Director of Electricity of the CNE, Francisco Cruz and Joan Genao, as well as by several members of the technical team of the CNE. An overall of 30 specialists attended the energy sector representing public and private institutions.

On behalf of OLADE, the workshop was led by the Information Management and Training Coordinator, Mrs. Paola Carrera, who explained in detail each stage of the of Energy Planning Manual and invited participants to actively engage in the implementation of the Energy Planning Manual. She also highlighted the responsibilities and benefits of each public and private stakeholders in the Dominican Republic’s energy sector as part of this project. The revision of the workshop of the Energy Diagnosis and Energy Policy is expected to be performed in July of this year, according to the preliminary schedule of activities agreed with project’s officials.
